Rug Hooking Basics
with Laura Salamy

February 1st, 2025:
11am-4pm

Members: $90
Non-Members: $120
Limit: 10 participants
Ages 14+
 All skill levels welcome!
Materials Fee (Paid directly to instructor upon arrival): $30

Learn the basics of traditional rug hooking with a bit of a twist. Not only will we use the usual wool fabric strips and yarn (more about that in class), but we’ll also try old t-shirts, yarn, ribbon, and anything else you might have that you can pull a loop with.

In this workshop with Laura Salamy, students will:

• Discuss the history of rug hooking and where it is today, including its various forms;
• Learn how to prep our materials;
• Begin hooking a “mug rug,” a small table mat, or wall hanging; and
• Discuss the ways we can finish the piece when the hooking is done.

Materials students should provide: Please bring a pair of scissors, and any fibers you might want to try hooking with, but Laura will provide plenty too. Examples of fiber you could bring include old t-shirts, quilt cotton, bulky yarns, old sheets, etc.! Please bring a notebook and pencil.

Materials instructor will provide: Frames, hooks, fabric backing, fibers to play with. Frame can be purchased after class, if desired.

Because we’ll be working through the lunch hour, please bring food and beverages to keep your strength up.
