Please know the basics of sewing with a machine. This is an intermediate to advanced level sewing class.

Learn to sew a garment from
hand woven fabric!

Students will be working with a hand woven textile of your choice. Please bring a woven textile (does not have to be yours, but it does have to be handwoven)! Your fabric of choice should have drape, meaning that the weight should range from light- medium.

The size and yardage you will need depends on the sewing pattern you choose but please bring at least 2 yards of length, 3 if your width is less than 24”.

You will have a choice between a vest, or a slump shoulder short sleeve tunic that can be long or cropped. See picture to the left.

Please bring a heavier weaving, if you would like to make a vest. If you would like to make a kimono or blouse, please bring a lighter weaving to use.

*Prior to class Wet Finish or wash your weaving fabric properly with hot water and allow it to dry completely before we are able to cut into it. This is a necessary step to avoid shrinkage after the garment is sewn.

Materials for class: 2-3 yards of handwoven fabric.
Trim of your choice (optional)
Fabric shears
Preferred single needle sewing machine or serger
Pins and clips
EVFAC has sewing machines available if you do not want to bring your own! If you have a serger, please bring that along!

Please read above description. Contact Mika if you have questions at Mikaleestudio@gmail.com

Please bring a water bottle and snacks with you to class!
