Navajo Wedge Weave

This was an intermediate/advanced class. Students were asked to only register for the class with a basic knowledge of tapestry weaving.

During this three day course students worked direclty with Kevin Aspaas learning the unique Navajo Wedge Weaving technique. Students completed a 8.5" x 10.5" Wedge Weave textile. During this course students learned the process and interesting history of the Diné wedge weave technique. The technique itself it very rare and is in a revival stage among modern Diné weavers today.

About Kevin Aspaas: Kevin Aspaas (Diné) is a weaver and fiber artist from Shiprock, New Mexico. Aspaas utilizes the traditional Diné sheep-to-loom weaving process. He is best known for producing the old-style Navajo wedge-weaving technique and for creating other traditional and contemporary Navajo textiles.
