Sewing and Quilting 101: Beginner Essentials

This is a beginner class, followed by more advanced sessions.
All skill levels welcome.
Join Robbie and Michelle for an introduction to Sewing and Quilting. The Introduction class will cover setting up, operating and maintaining a sewing machine.
Learn the following with Robbie and Michelle:
-Understanding a sewing machine
-How to use and install machine accessories
-Sewing preparation
-How to balance tension
-Quilt Seams
-Understanding supplies
-Selecting fabric
-Understanding batting
-Rotary cutting
-Layering and basting
-Basic quilting techniques
-Binding techniques
Sewing Machines:
Sewing machines are provided by the center, but if you have your own machine you are encouraged to bring it along with you to class. Robbie has an extensive knowledge of most machines, and it would be wonderful if you were to learn to use your personal sewing machine. Please let Robbie know if you intend to bring your machine, what the make and model of the machine is, or if you have any other questions by contacting her here at robbie.berg@yahoo.com
Fabric scraps, batting, thread and basic sewing supplies are provided for the first class. However, if you have a preferred thread, scissors, and other sewing notions, please bring them. If using your own machine remember to bring any accessories needed like extra bobbins and presser feet. Also remember your power cord, foot pedal, operating manual.
About Robbie Berg: Fabric and design have been a life-long love for Robbie. She started sewing and designing in high school which was many years ago. Robbie continued with clothing design and sewed for 7 weddings and numerous other special events. For several years she sewed school clothes for her daughters and each of her three children always had a custom Halloween costume. About 15 years ago she was fortunate to be included in a circle of women who quilted and has been hooked on all types of fiber. She was awarded the President's Choice ribbon at the Clark County Guild show in 2014 for her Mariner's Compass paper pieced quilt. More recently, she has branched out to making fiber pottery baskets and bags. Robbie currently represented by two galleries for her fiber pottery and enjoys teaching others to create fiber pottery.
