Learn Double Weave with Karen Hampton

Please note, this is an intermediate class: Students must be able to warp a loom and read a basic draft.

Double weaving is a fun way to design. It lends itself to creating unique, one-of-a-kind artwork. This class will teach weavers how to weave a double-cloth fabric, which can be a double-width, window pane design, or pick-up design.

About Double Weave: Double weave is a weaving technique that allows you to weave 2 layers of cloth at once, or a double wide piece of fabric, “window pane “ designs, as well as pick-up, and more! Karen’s course will walk you through these techniques and allow you to explore the expansive world of double woven cloth.

About Karen Hampton: Karen Hampton, an American Craft Council Fellow, is a conceptually based fiber artist who addresses issues of colorism and kinship. Hampton is recognized as a figurative storyteller who weaves together textures and colors of the ancient world with that of an imagined future. Material and imagery are part of the methodology she uses to access her ancestral and personal heritage. Using her training in the fiber arts with her training in anthropology, she synthesizes the weaver's role with that of a griot, the storyteller. Hampton's art practice easily flows between fiber surfaces and materials to complete each story. Hampton is a trained weaver and dyer; she retired from Massachusetts College of Art and Design in 2023 and now teaches Beginning and Intermediate 4 and 8 harness weaving at EVFAC and out of her studio.

Class cancellation policy: Please note: All Class cancellations are charged a $15 processing fee in addition to the following policy: Class cancellations 7 days or less prior to first day of class will receive no refund. 8-13 days before beginning of class, students will receive an 80% refund. 14 days or more before beginning of class: Full refund.
